Back to article list

22nd April 2022

Cedar students and staff have celebrated Asian History Month during March and have had access to some fantastic events. The month started with the bistro providing Asian inspired meals such as noodles and kebabs which everyone found delicious and plans to become a staple on the Academy menu.
All year groups learned bhangra dancing and Ms Rizvi held two special cooking classes with the help of Ms Asghar. Two former CMA students returned to teach Year 7 about partition and rewarded the most active students with Pakistani sweets whilst Ms Rana and Ms Allison hosted a K-pop karaoke lunchtime disco which was very popular! The library created a display board celebrating Asian authors and dedicated shelves of books for students to read.
Teachers focused lessons around all things Asian i.e. ‘Production in China’ ‘Asian Women in Ethics and Politics’, ‘Traditional Asian Beliefs’ in Religious Studies and ‘The British Raj in History. Lecturers from the University of Manchester delivered a session on the ‘Importance of History and Indian Thinkers’ to Year 11 and brought along students from the university for a Q&A.
Staff across departments displayed posters of their Asian heroes on their doors and offices and the month culminated in students
attending school in traditional dress on the final day of term.
