British Values

In addition to developing spiritual, moral, social and cultural opportunities for students, we also ensure that the British Values of democracy, the rules of law, individual liberty and respect/tolerance permeate the work of the Academy.

Students are given an understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process, having been given the opportunity to take part in the UK Youth Parliament ‘Make Your Mark’ campaign, as well as voting for the representatives for their House.

Students are also given an appreciation that living under the rule of law protects individual citizens and is essential for their well-being and safety, for example, through the lessons on Rights and Responsibilities in RE, as well as the Consequences topic in Healthy Living.

An understanding that everyone has the freedom to choose and hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law is encouraged in their RE and Healthy Living lessons. An acceptance that other people having different faiths or beliefs to oneself is encouraged, with the knowledge that any prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated in the Academy.
